Ecologists discover the IIRE

More groups than ever are using the IIRE facilities this year. We hope the word is getting around, and it seems to be among some ecology activists.

Milieudefensie, the Dutch part of Friends of the Earth , have rented the IIRE a number of times in the past to hold their annual meetings - which they did again in June. This year we also had the British Friends of the Earth hold a two-day meeting here and Friends of the Earth International held a five-day meeting here in May.

The Institute for Cultural Affairs , a Dutch organization that sends volunteers to various countries around the world to work in community development, rented the IIRE four times, using the facilities to train these young volunteers and then to debrief them after their return.

Likewise, ASF - Aktion Sühnezeichen Friedensdienste , a German organization that links German youth with Dutch programmes - has rented the IIRE for the last five years to conduct their week-long training sessions.

This is not an exhaustive list, but meant to give everyone an idea of how the IIRE can be used for international meeting or training sessions.
